Day 2....Pouring the Roof

We woke up - well, we were woken up this morning to a chorus of roosters playing phone tag!  Breakfast was next and then a wonderful hour learning about COCREF - the Christian school system here in the DR.

Then it was pile into the van and off to La Esperanza - truly a school of hope in the small community of Hato Nuevo.  The guys were immediately put to work - helping the local workers mix, shovel and pour concrete on the roof.  It was a hard day's labour for the team as everything is done by hand, including shovelling up the concrete two floors.  The guys did good work and were very tired by the end of the day.  It was a hot day with clear blue skies.  The ladies helped where they could, bringing water to barrels for the concrete, pulling nails out of the wood to be used for forming the next area and cleaning up.

We were treated to a beautiful, hot lunch made by the ladies at the school and we were able to spend a wonderful time getting to know the local labourers who are also working very hard at getting this school ready for next September.  We are getting ready to do our devotions together and then we'll be off to the local 'costco' - the Caravour - maybe for some ice-cream!!

  1. Good to hear that all is going well. Also glad to know that the roosters are still singing.I don't think I'll ever forget that song first thing in the morning. Thanks for the pictures. It is great to see the follow up to what our team accomplished there just before you. Makes me wish I was still there. God's blessings to your team. Olga
