It is difficult to believe that in four weeks we will be packing up, checking our lists twice...or three times :) and finally preparing for a trip that we have been looking forward to for almost a year.
We have raised more than needed funds for our team. We praise our faithful Father, God in Heaven for his abundant provision. Everytimre a team is formed, one of the concerns is where in the world the funds for the team will come from. It is natural to be practical and real with the idea that each of us needs to come up with over $2000. This covers our flights, lodging and food and transportation in-country. Also included in the amount is the cost of the raw materials we will be using while working. Through several fundraisers, collections held in two churches and private/business donations we have the funds needed and we stand in awe of our God who constantly in His word tells us not to worry.
We have a few things yet to do before we head out. On January 23 there will be a comissioning service for our HANDS Team. We will be officially sent out by our congregation to be the hands and feet of our Lord Jesus. We are looking foward to this special time where we will experience the support and encouragement of our community and God himself. A few weeks later we will have another commissioning service in Trinity CRC because Bernie and Brenda Prinsen from St. Catharines (my brother and sister-in-law) are also on the team. We also have one more team meeting to talk about the actual trip. This will make the trip just a little bit more real :)
Thank you to everyone who have encouraged and supported us. Being a part of a HANDS Team is a little like a small group in that we fellowship, work, share and pray together for a year. A special bond develops over the course of preparation and while on the trip that lasts. It is my prayer that we will keep God front and center as we get ready to leave and as we work in the Dominican Republic. I also hope that there will be wireless internet while we are there so this blog can be updated with posts and pictures. Blessings. Till next time.
